The Government announced today (February 6) the appointments of Messrs Michael Sze Cho-cheung and Thomas Brian Stevenson and the re-appointments of Messrs Vincent Chow Wing-shing and Wilfred Wong Ying-wai as members of the Public Service Commission for a term of two years with effect from February 1, 2004.
Mr Sze is the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. His varied public service includes being a member of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Trade and Industry Advisory Board and the ICAC Operations Review Committee.
Mr Stevenson is a Non-Executive Director of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited; the MTR Corporation Limited; and the Securities and Futures Commission. He is also a Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Mr Chow is the Director and Group General Manager of Chow Sang Sang Holdings International Limited. He is a member of the Council of the City University of Hong Kong and the Trade and Industry Advisory Board, and an Adjudicator of the Panel of Adjudicators (Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles). He has been a member of the Commission since 1998.
Mr Wong is the Vice-Chairman of Shui On Holdings Limited. He is the Chairman of the Social Welfare Advisory Committee, the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Court of the Hong Kong Baptist University, and a member of the Council of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He has been a member of the Commission since 2002.
Mr Frank Pong Fai has retired from the Public Service Commission on February 1, 2004 after serving on the Commission for six years.
The Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph WP Wong, said: "On behalf of the Administration, I would like to thank Mr Pong for his remarkable contribution to the Commission during his tenure. He has tendered invaluable advice to the Commission in upholding the quality and integrity of the civil service
"I am also pleased to welcome Mr Michael Sze and Mr Brian Stevenson as new members of the Commission. I have no doubt that their expertise and extensive public service experience will contribute to the work of the Commission," Mr Wong added.
The Public Service Commission is currently chaired by Mr Haider Barma. As well as those mentioned above, the other members are Dr Elizabeth Shing Shiu-ching, Miss Eliza Chan Ching-har and Mr Simon Ip Sik-on.
