Appointments to Hong Kong Productivity Council announced

The Government today (December 19) announced the reappointment of eight incumbent members of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) and the appointment of two new members.

Mr Wong Ming-yam, JP, is reappointed as Deputy Chairman of the HKPC for a period of one year, while Mr Chan Wai-lun; Mr Chu Kwan-lam, Locky; Mr Tam Wai-ho, Samson; Mr Tang Chung-yen, Tom; Ms Tang Yin-ngor, Elizabeth; Mr Yin Tek-shing, Paul, BBS; and Mr Young Tze-kong, Paul, JP, are reappointed as members of the HKPC for a period of two years. The re-appointments will take effect from January 1, 2004.

The Government also announced the appointment of Ms Lam Shuk-yee and Mr Yip Chung-yin, Daniel as members of the HKPC for a period of two years from January 1, 2004.

In October 2003, the Government appointed Mrs Carrie Willis, JP, to the HKPC. The appointment runs until December 31, 2004.

The role of the HKPC is to provide integrated support to innovative and growth-oriented Hong Kong firms across the value chain. The main sectoral focus is on manufacturing, particularly in Hong Kong's foundation industries, and related service activities; and its main geographical focus is Hong Kong and Pearl River Delta. The HKPC provides its clients with a diverse range of support services in product development, consultancy, training and technology transfer.

"We are confident that these members, with their impressive expertise and knowledge, will help the HKPC provide even better services as it strives to help Hong Kong industries add value and become more competitive," a Government spokesman said.

The HKPC is governed by a Council comprising a Chairman and 22 members, of which 18 are non-official members and five are public officials. The members of the Council are drawn from managerial, labour, academic and professional ranks, as well as related Government bureaux and departments.
