Two companies were fined a total of $26,000 at the Kwun Tong Magistracy today (October 13), after being convicted of offences under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance.
In the first case, the defendant, Mr Ku Man Cheung trading as Pak Yip Manufacturing Company pleaded guilty to five charges of MPF offences, namely, failing to make MPF contributions from the employer's own fund for an employee between August and October 2002, making false or misleading statement and failing to make MPF contribution on time for the same employee during the period of December 2002. The defendant was fined $5,000 for the first summons, $2,000 each for the second and third summonses, $4,000 for the fourth summons and $2,000 for the remaining one, totaling $15,000.
In the second case, the defendant, IE Sioe Ging trading as Wah Kee Motor Company pleaded guilty to nine counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time for an employee between July 2002 and March 2003. The defendant was fined $3,000 for the first summons, and $1,000 each for the remaining eight summonses, totaling $11,000.
