Adviser of the Executive Committee of the Chinese History and Culture Educational Foundation for Youth, Mr Tang Yat-sun, said the Hong Kong Police Force, in terms of incorruptness, professionalism and efficiency, had won the trust and support of the community and was recognised by other law enforcement agencies all over the world.
In reviewing a passing-out parade at the Police Training School today (October 11), Mr Tang said, "Police work, particularly those of the frontline, are closely related to the life and property of the members of the public whose respect to and expectation on the Force are steadily on the increase.
Although Hong Kong had been maintaining good public order with a low crime rate, Mr Tang advised graduating officers not to be complacent because Hong Kong was a rather complicated society and people could not afford to relax their vigilance.
"As crisis may suddenly take place, all of you must be on the alert when on duty so as to cope with such situations," he told the officers.
Meanwhile, Mr Tang lauded at the Force for encouraging its staff not only to care for the community but also participate actively in social services. Citing as an example, Mr Tang said the performance by the Police Pipe Band in a series of exchange activities organised by the Chinese History and Culture Educational Foundation for Youth in Beijing in April last year was highly spoken of.
"I hope that all of you will serve the community with professionalism, like your colleagues, according to the principle of 'We serve with Pride and Care' when you perform your duties every day," he added.
A total of seven probationary inspectors and 133 recruit constables graduated today.
