The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 10) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal, totaling some $52,300 on behalf of six employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The defendants were Shek Lai Wa, Jovy trading as Train House and Hop Yue Construction Company Limited.
At today's hearing, Hop Yue Construction Company Limited did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $24,806.10, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other defendant, Shek Lai Wa, Jovy trading as Train House did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $27,503.34, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the relevant employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. Amounts of $330 and $180 were also awarded respectively as costs in respect of the claims.
