Death of Stanley Prison inmate

About 7.10am today (October 2), patrolling staff of Stanley Prison found a 40-year-old inmate hanging himself with a piece of bed sheet in his cell.

First aid was immediately applied at the scene and the inmate was taken to Eastern Hospital, where he was certified dead at 8.11am.

Police have been informed of the incident. An inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

The Chinese inmate, Wong Shun-hung, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to a 13-year prison term in February 2003.

The prison management has informed his relatives of his death.
