The Hong Kong Science Museum presents a lecture, "Scintillation materials: what are they, how they work, and what they are used for", at the museum's lecture hall on Wednesday (October 1) from 2.30pm to 4pm.

The lecturer will be Dr Martin Nikl, Leading Senior Scientist of the Institute of Physics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

He will talk about the functions and contributions and the challenges of exploring such scintillation materials as single crystals, glass and ceramic. These materials are tailored for specific scientific applications including high-energy physics detectors, various medical uses, "time-of-flight" applications and neutron detection.

The lecture will be conducted in English. Admission is free on a first-come-first-seated basis.
