Parents who wish to apply under the Primary One Admission (POA) System for a Primary One (P1) place for their child in any public sector school in September 2004 are reminded to submit their application starting tomorrow (September 15).
"Parents who wish to apply for a particular government or aided primary school in the Discretionary Places Admission Stage should submit the completed Application Form with all supporting documents directly to that school during school office hours between tomorrow and September 19," a spokesman for the Education and Manpower Bureau said.
"Parents may apply to a school in or outside of the school net in which they reside. However, we advise them to select a neighbourhood primary school to avoid transportation problems."
He stressed that parents should submit only one application form for each child, otherwise their application would be rendered void.
"In addition, children who have accepted the offer of P1 places in Direct Subsidy Scheme primary schools will not be allocated P1 places in government or aided primary schools through the POA System," he added.
To assist parents in making an appropriate school choice to cater for their children's personality and needs, the Committee on Home-School Co-operation has recently launched the Cyber Primary School Profiles 2003 (http://embhsc.hkedcity.net/2003/primary/).
Parents can get access to essential information on over 700 primary schools via the Internet anytime. A powerful search engine allows parents to look for school information by district, school sector, student gender, school hours, school name, or other particulars by means of an advanced web search.
The homepage also provides hyperlinks to education-related websites, allowing parents to have a better understanding of the current school and education systems.
Response to the Cyber Primary School Profiles 2003 has been overwhelming, with page view numbers exceeding one million since its inception on September 3.
Parents who opt to apply for Central Allocation only should submit the completed Application Form and supporting documents between September 15, 2003 and January 16, 2004 to the following:
School Places Allocation Section (POA), Education and Manpower Bureau, 2/F, Lui Kee Education Services Centre, 269 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
