Police are investigating a case in which a police officer opened fire while conducting an anti car-racing operation on Tai Po Road early this(September 12) morning.
Initial enquiries revealed that shortly before 3.30 am, officers attached to the Enforcement and Control Division of Traffic New Territories North set up road blocks on Tai Po Road and intercepted suspected vehicles travelling towards Shatin near Chek Nai Ping.
While Police were conducting enquiries at the scene, one private car reportedly accelerated towards a station sergeant. The station sergeant fired one shot at the private car. The private car later fled along Tai Po Road towards Shatin.
The station sergeant sustained no injuries. Police are still locating the private car.
A total of 20 persons and 11 vehicles suspected to be connected to illegal car-racing activities were netted in the whole operation.
Investigations by District Crime Squad of Tai Po District are proceeding.
