Death of Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre inmate

About 7.30 am today (August 5), staff of the Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre (LCKRC) found a 26-year-old inmate unconscious inside the hospital ward of the Centre.

First aid was immediately given at the scene and the inmate was then taken to Caritas Medical Centre where he was certified dead at 7.52 am.

Police has been informed of the incident. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

The prison management is also through the assistance of the Police trying to contact his family.

The Nepalese inmate, Bhupen Chhetri, was convicted of theft. He was sentenced to an imprisonment of seven days and admitted to LCKRC on July 30, 2003.

He complained of feeling unwell at around midnight yesterday (August 4) and had since been admitted to the Centre hospital for observation.
