The Director of Highways, Mr Mak Chai Kwong, today (July 18) signed a $678-million contract with Paul Y. Construction Company Limited to commence the widening of Yuen Long Highway between Tan Kwai Tsuen and Shap Pat Heung Interchange.
The contract forms part of the Government's plan to improve the traffic capacity of Yuen Long Highway to cope with the future traffic demand generated from population growth in the North West New Territories and the increase in the cross-boundary traffic.
The contract includes widening of the 4.5 kilometre section of the Yuen Long Highway between Tan Kwai Tsuen and Shap Pat Heung Interchange from dual two-lane to dual three-lane, provision of 3.65-metre wide hard shoulders, erection of noise barriers and landscaping works.
Works will commence in July 2003 for completion in October 2005.
