The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 17) pursued 10 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal, totaling some $119,000 on behalf of 29 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The defendants were Hop Wo Knitting Factory Limited, Kind Joyce Property Limited trading as Fook Hing Hot-Pot Seafood Restaurant, Tong Shui Ping & Choy Fung Guang trading as Moon Chuk, Great Sure Limited trading as Macau South Bay Restaurant, Manufacturer Warranty Solutions (Asia) Limited, Cyberproject (Holdings) Limited, Chan Wai Kong trading as Chin Ngai Fashion Co, John Leung Studios Limited, Nutriplus Cosmetics International Limited and Wah Loon Packing & Stationery Company Limited.
Kind Joyce Property Limited trading as Fook Hing Hot-Pot Seafood Restaurant pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to 19 charges of failing to make MPF contributions on time and were fined a total of $52,500.
The above defendants did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $46,561.21, $37,207.50, $10,790.52, $9,840, $4,983.44, $4,076.46, $3,872.88, $822.36, $549.58 and $508.24 being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $410, $500, $90, $240, $240, $240, $350, $310, $110 and $220 as costs in respect of the claims.
