Police arrested a total of 66 people in a joint operation in Yuen Long with the Immigration Department today (July 15).
Police officers of Pat Heung Division and Quick Reaction Force together with the Immigration Task Force officers mounted the three-hour operation at 3 am this morning.
The operation was targeted at Two-way Permit holders who breached the conditions of stay including working illegally in Hong Kong,
Fifty-one men and 15 women, aged between 20 and 51, were found living in containers and abandoned farm houses in Tai Kong Po Village, Ng Ka Tsuen, and Ho Pui area. They were believed to be engaged in illegal employment as construction workers or debris-picking activities.
The arrested persons will be handed over to the Immigration Department later today for follow-up action.
A Police spokesman reiterated that similar operations would be conducted on a regular basis to combat the illegal worker problem.
