Two companies Fined $20,000 for MPF offences

Two employers were fined a total of $20,000 at the Kwun Tong Magistracy today (July 7), after being convicted of offences under the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance.

In the first case, Mr Fung Yan-lok trading as Expression International Employment Agency pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to enroll an employee in an MPF scheme. The defendant was fined $4,000 for the summons.

In the second case, the defendant, Leo Management Consultancy Limited, pleaded guilty to seven counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time for an employee between August 2002 and February 2003. The defendant was fined $4,000 for the first summons, and $2,000 each for the other six summonses, totaling $16,000.

MPFA wins one claim for MPF non-payment

In the Small Claims Tribunal today (July 7 ), the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) pursued a claim for some $43,000 on behalf of four employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The defendant, Ever Elite Development Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $43,339.69, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the relevant employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. Amount of $170 was also awarded as costs in respect of the claim.
