Customs officers seized an export consignment of unmanifested mobile phones, worth about $1.3 million, at the Air Cargo Terminal at Hong Kong International Airport yesterday (July 6).

The consignment, declared as phone accessories, was destined for the United Arab Emirates.

While examining the consignment at Super Terminal One prior to departure, Customs officers found and seized the unmanifested mobile phones.

A spokesman for the Customs and Excise Department said investigations were continuing. No arrest has been made.

Under the Import and Export Ordinance, any person exporting unmanifested goods is liable to prosecution. The maximum penalty for the offence is a fine of $2 million and seven years' jail.
