Customs seizes counterfeit goods at the Airport

***********************************************

Customs officers seized an export consignment of counterfeit watches and wallets, worth about $860,000, at the Air Cargo Terminal yesterday (July 2).

The consignment, declared as watches and leather wallets, was destined for Mexico via the United States.

While examining the consignment at Super Terminal One prior to flight departure, Customs officers found and seized the counterfeit goods.

A spokesman for the Customs and Excise Department said today (July 3), "Customs investigations are continuing. No arrest has yet been made."

Under the Trade Descriptions Ordinance, any person exporting goods with false trade descriptions is liable to prosecution. The maximum penalty for the offence is a fine of $500,000 and five years' imprisonment.
