The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (June 16) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal, totaling some $128,000 on behalf of 18 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
The defendants were Shek Kin Man formerly trading as Chong Yip Transportation Company, Turbowealth Limited trading as Spicy Crab Seafood Restaurant, China Target Investment Limited trading as Splendid Court Seafood Restaurant, Chan Tak Kin trading as Matsuda Express Company, Ka Ka International Limited and Wong Lin Ming.
At today's hearing, Chan Tak Kin trading as Matsuda Express Company did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $14,513.23, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other defendants, namely, Shek Kin Man formerly trading as Chong Yip Transportation Company, Turbowealth Limited trading as Spicy Crab Seafood Restaurant, China Target Investment Limited trading as Splendid Court Seafood Restaurant, Ka Ka International Limited and Wong Lin Ming did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $38,893.00, $37,165.26, $19,473.42, $13,997.83 and $4,445.76 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $400, $210, $410, $260, $260 and $210 as costs in respect of the claims.
