Postal services to Mauritania suspended

***************************************

All postal services to Mauritania have been suspended following an attempted coup d'etat on June 8.

The Assistant Postmaster General, Mr Chan Yau-fung, announced today (June 16) that as advised by the postal administration of Mauritania looters had taken advantage of the situation to ransack postal facilities, destroying the sorting centre and the main post office in Mauritania.

A further announcement will be made when postal operations in the North African country are resumed.
