A 32-year-old male illegal immigrant was sentenced today (June 6) at the Court of First Instance of the High Court to seven years and four months' imprisonment after being convicted of one count of possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence.

The court heard that in an intelligence-based operation on July 19, 2003, crime officers of the Kowloon west Region intercepted the man upon his arrival at Tuen Mun Promenade.

A shotgun, homemade self-loading pistol and 17 rounds of ammunition were found during in the operation.

The man was later charged with one count of possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence.

He pleaded guilty and the sentence was meted out today.
