MPFA pursues seven claims against non-payment

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 29) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal, totaling some $104,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The defendants were Choi Tuen Fung trading as Choi Tie Chuen Metal Works, Raymond & Hair Ornament (H.K.) Limited, Sunny Light Services Limited, Benho Limited trading as Sun Wai Shing Restaurant, Bah Shok Hot Pot & Szechuan Restaurant, Texture Textile & Garment Company Limited and Yeung Sui Transporation Company Limited.

At today's hearing, Raymond & Hair Ornament (H.K.) Limited, Sunny Light Services Limited and Benho Limited trading as Sun Wai Shing Restaurant did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $20,921.56, $14,649.54 and $14,245.33 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other defendants, namely, Choi Tuen Fung trading as Choi Tie Chuen Metal Works, Bah Shok Hot Pot & Szechuan Restaurant, Texture Textile & Garment Company Limited and Yeung Sui Transporation Company Limited did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $35,790.41, $9,323.47, $8,867.56 and $259.38 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $210, $300, $350, $360, $330, $350 and $390 as costs in respect of the claims.
