MPFA pursues two claims for MPF non-payment

*******************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 27) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal, totaling some $34,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The defendants were IMD Group Limited and Hong Kong Safety Clinical Waste Treatment Limited.

At the earlier court hearing, Hong Kong Safety Clinical Waste Treatment Limited was convicted of a count of failing to make MPF contributions on time, and failing to enroll an employee in an MPF scheme and was fined $20,000.

The above defendants did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $32,665.81 and $2,168.19 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the relevant employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. Amounts of $200 and $220 were also awarded respectively as costs in respect of the claims.
