MPFA ordered employers to pay $196,000 MPF

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today(May 13) pursued 10 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal, totalling some $196,000 on behalf of 18 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

The defendants were Top Treasure Engineering Limited, Lee Sze Ming trading as Creative Mind Printing Production Co., Rainbow Cosmetic (Central) Company Limited, Li Po Kau & Ng Yuk Tai trading as Wilson Optical Co., Everich Construction & Engineering Limited, Ever Elite Development Limited, Focus Imaging & Digital Printing Limited, Newland Electronic Company Limited, Easy Fortune Development Limited trading as Fuk Chuen Restaurant and Success Property Company Limited.

Top Treasure Engineering Limited and Success Property Company Limited had earlier been fined a total of $24,000 after pleading guilty to six counts of failing to make MPF contributions and $8,000 for a count of similar offence respectively.

At today's hearing, Everich Construction & Engineering Limited and Focus Imaging & Digital Printing Limited did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $15,668.00 and $9,188.23 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other defendants, namely, Top Treasure Engineering Limited, Lee Sze Ming trading as Creative Mind Printing Production Co., Rainbow Cosmetic (Central) Company Limited, Li Po Kau & Ng Yuk Tai trading as Wilson Optical Co., Ever Elite Development Limited, Newland Electronic Company Limited, Easy Fortune Development Limited trading as Fuk Chuen Restaurant and Success Property Company Limited did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sum of $41,877.29, $39,888.76, $39,836.26, $30,274.88, $11,158.05, $4,955.64, $2,855.92 and $455.65 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the relevant employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. Amounts of $310, $200, $330, $150, $280, $275, $270, $290, $380 and $200 were also awarded respectively as costs in respect of the claims.
