The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
The Legislative Council will hold a meeting this Wednesday (May 14) at 2.30 pm in the Legislative Council Chamber. During the meeting, Members will debate a motion on calling for the resignation of the Chief Executive, Mr TUNG Chee-hwa.
The motion, to be moved by Hon Albert CHAN Wai-yip, says: "That this Council calls for the resignation of the Chief Executive, Mr TUNG Chee-hwa."
Members will also debate a motion proposed by Hon Ambrose LAU Hon-chuen on exploring new areas of co-operation between Hong Kong and Guangdong. His motion says: "That, as the Chief Executive has stated in this year's Policy Address that Hong Kong and Guangdong should, with the common goal of achieving a major modernised economic region, raise and speed up the level of co-operation in exploring new areas of common interests where there is room for enhanced co-operation, this Council urges the Government to actively consult various industrial, commercial and professional sectors on the relevant subjects and expeditiously put forward feasible proposals and implementation timetables."
On bills, the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill 2003 will be introduced into the Council for First and Second Readings. Second Reading debates on this bill will be adjourned.
Meanwhile, Second Reading debate on the Land (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Bill 2002 will resume. If the Bill is supported by Members and receives its Second Reading, it will then go through the Committee Stage and be read the third time.
During the meeting, Members will ask the Government 17 questions on various policy areas, six of which require oral replies.
