Armed robbery gang smashed

**************************

Police believed to have neutralised an armed robbery gang following the arrest of 15 men in an operation in Sha Tau Kok yesterday (May 5).

Acting on information, officers from the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) arrested five men inside two vehicles at Sha Tau Kok Road near Wo Keng Shan Road at 10 am.

Both vehicles were found to be bearing fake number plates.

Officers seized three firearms, 28 rounds of ammunition, two hammers, one knife and some labour gloves in one of the cars.

Initial examination revealed that the firearms, comprising one homemade revolver and two semi-automatic pistols, were genuine.

Subsequent searches led to the further arrest of 10 men and the location of five more vehicles in the vicinity.

Enquiries revealed that the syndicate targeted cross-boundary container trucks carrying computer parts and mobile phone.

The arrested persons, aged between 22 and 51, are being detained for enquiries.

Investigations by OCTB are still proceeding.
