With only five more days to go until March 16, the "2003 Hong Kong Flower Show" has recently replenished its floral displays with fresh flowers.
The replenished flowers varied from the theme flowers of Phalaenopsis to Tulip, Lilium, Begonia, Impatiens, Petunia and Carnation.
With the theme "Orchid Splendour" and "Phalaenopsis" as theme flower, the show is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and presented on a five-hectare site in Victoria Park. Sixteen overseas organizations from 11 countries, comprising the Mainland, Australia, Canada, France, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom are taking part in the show.
Over 300 000 flowers with about 8 000 pieces of Phalaenopsis in 140 species are currently on display. Rare species include Phalaenopsis Gigantean, Phalaenopsis Ambabilis and Phalaenopsis "Little Mary", Phalaenopsis "Taisuco Valenty", Doritaenopsis Queen Bee "Red Sky", and Doritaenopsis Var.Three Lips, Tat Mor and Fu Lan (Tai Fu Kwai).
In addition to bonsai and floral display, about 20 fringe activities and programmes will be organised for the enjoyment of visitors in the next five days. These include horticultural seminars, floral arrangement demonstration, musical and cultural programmes including dragon and lion dances, plant maintenance workshops, talks on greening and herbal for medicine, recreation programmes and family fun games. Prominent Japanese floral display master, Mrs Reiko Takenana (Hong Kong Branch of the Sogetsu Teachers' Association) will lead 30 followers from Japan and present a floral arrangement demonstration in the afternoon of March 16 at Victoria Park.

Besides, plant care workshop is held from 9.30am to 12.30pm at the Central Lawn daily during the show period.
The flower show is open to the public from 9 am to 9 pm daily. Admission fees for adults are $14 and half price for children and students. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities will have free admission on weekdays and concession at $7 for Saturdays and Sundays. Adults in a group of 30 persons or more will be admitted at half rate on weekdays and advance-booking guided tours will be arranged.
In support of the 2003 HKFS, the Ocean Park has also offered admission ticket discount to flower show visitors. On presentation of the 2003 HKFS's used tickets at the Ocean Park, visitors will be eligible to enjoy a discount of $7 or $14 on purchase of an Ocean Park daytime admission ticket. The concession will last until March 31, 2003.
The 2003 HKFS admission tickets will be available at the Victoria Park, the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, and Leisure Link outlets.
