The following is issued on behalf of the Honourable Acting Chief Justice, Mr Patrick Chan, today (January 29): -

"I was deeply saddened to learn this morning that His Honour Judge Z.E. Li had passed away in Queen Mary Hospital yesterday after a valiant struggle against a long illness. The news of his death has been received by all in the Judiciary with great sorrow. He will be missed by his colleagues and the legal profession.

"The Judiciary joins me in extending our most sincere condolences to his wife and family on their bereavement.

"The late Judge Li was in private practice before joining the Judiciary as Magistrate in 1987 and was appointed District Judge in 1995."
