Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park opens today

*************************************

Residents in Central and Western District will have a new pleasure ground by the seaside - the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park (Temporary Park).

The Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park (Temporary Park), managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), is located at Eastern Street North, Sai Ying Pun, adjacent to the Western Park Sports Centre.

The park, with an area of over 10,000 square metres, provides a variety of leisure and recreational facilities to residents including a hard-surfaced multi-playing pitch, five pavilions with seats, and a landscape garden.

The specially designed landscape garden, with trees and shrubs, is a welcome greening area in the busy urban district.

An LCSD spokesman said, "The park, with several nice pavilions, is not only a perfect place for relaxing, but also provides a scenic view, especially during night-time, of Western Kowloon, Tsing Yi and Ma Wan in the other side of the harbour."

"The multi-purpose pitch will offer a fine place for the public to play ball games as well as a wide variety of sport activities and will helps them to establish a habit of doing exercises regularly."

He added, "The Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park (Stage II), a large scale leisure venue, is under planning."

There are 12 other parks/sitting-out areas managed by the Department in the district, including Blake Gardens, King George V Memorial Park, Hong Kong and Kennedy Road Playground.
