The newly-completed Luen Wo Hui Market, with its purpose-built facilities, offers a pleasant and hygienic environment for shoppers seeking fresh daily provisions and necessities.
Commissioned on July 1, the market occupies a total area of about 18,650 square metres and is conveniently located at the hub of Fanling in Wo Mun Street.
"The modern three-storey market accommodates 334 wet and dry goods stalls on the ground and first floors, providing a wide range of fresh food including fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and poultry as well as other household items. The second floor houses a cooked food centre comprising 22 stalls," said the North District Environmental Hygiene Superintendent, Mr Kan Wing-yiu.
"Designed to the latest standards, the market has installed an air conditioning system on each floor to provide a comfortable environment for both the customers and stall operators. Raised platforms are designed in front of each stall for clear display of goods, " Mr Kan noted.
"To enhance environmental hygiene, all poultry stalls on the ground floor are separated from other market stalls with a separate ventilation system. Each poultry stall also has an individual scalding room.
"To facilitate customers, all market floors are designed with broad passageways and are easily accessible by escalators and lifts. Other facilities include a refuse collection point, a loading basin and a parking area for bicycles. Closed-circuit television is also installed for better management and security." For the convenience of nearby residents, Mr Kan said two footbridges had been built to link up the market to nearby residential buildings. The construction of a third footbridge is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The wet market opens from 6 am to 8 pm daily while the cooked food centre operates between 6 am and 2 am.
The new Luen Wo Hui Market was built to resite operators in Luen Wo Hui Hawker Bazaar, Luen Wo Hui Temporary Hawker Bazaar and Luen Wo Private Market.
With the commissioning of the new market, the Luen Wo Hui Hawker Bazaar will be closed on September 26.
