Chapter 4 of Hong Kong Planning Standards and Guidelines (HKPSG) on Recreation and Open Space has been expanded to incorporate planning guidelines on greening, a spokesman for the Planning Department said today (July 26).
Existing landscaping and tree planting guidelines for different types of developments in the HKPSG as well as in other departmental technical circulars are brought together in the chapter, now renamed Recreation, Open Space and Greening.
Devised to promote greening and improve the quality of the built environment, the greening guidelines cover site planning, various developments and visually sensitive uses, open space, roads and highways, slopes, drainage and water works.
The spokesman said the greening guidelines would be for general reference rather than a technical manual.
The HKPSG, which sets out the criteria for determining the scale, location and site requirements of various land uses, is applied in planning studies, preparation and revision of town plans, and development control.
It has eleven chapters, each devoted to particular aspects of land uses and facilities.
The revised chapter can be viewed at the Planning Department's website at http://www.info.gov.hk/planning.
