Forty-six primary and secondary schools and kindergartens are commended at the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)'s "2001 Green School Project Award" prize presentation ceremony today (April 20) in recognition of their outstanding green school projects and their contribution to the Green Hong Kong Campaign.
Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the Assistant Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Eddy Yau said: "the Green School Subsidy Scheme is one of LCSD's major campaigns. Its objective is to enhance green consciousness among students by providing subsidies to schools to beautify campuses."
"The Scheme has been well-received since its introduction in 2000 as the number of schools has risen from 316 in 2000 to 495 in 2001, representing an increase of over 50 percent."
"The standard of green school projects are on the rise, some even up to the professional level. This indicates that both teachers and students are now trying hard to make the environment greener," he added.
Mr Yau revealed that a "School Garden Plot Programme" would be introduced later this year and certain plots of the parks would be allocated to local schools for students to practice gardening under the supervision of LCSD staff.
Other officiating guests at the prize presentation ceremony included the Assistant Director of the Education Department (School Development), Mr Cheng Man-yiu and the Honorary President of the Society of Horticulture, Hong Kong, Mrs Lynette Tiong.
