The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) delegation led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, held an exchange session in Guangzhou with their mainland counterparts led by the Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr Lu Ruihua, and the Vice Chairman of the State Development Planning Commission, Mr Zhang Guobao, today (March 26).
Mr Tsang said both sides exchanged views on ways to further strengthen Hong Kong/Guangdong cooperation on various fronts including economic and infrastructure planning. Other topics discussed at the meeting included the co-location of immigration and customs facilities, environmental protection and tourism.
Governor Lu briefed the HKSARG delegates on the economic development of Guangdong in the first quarter of this year. He appealed to enterprises from the two places to establish closer commercial ties.
The delegation today saw for themselves major infrastructure in Guangzhou, including the transportation network, container terminals at Xinsha Port and Huangpu New Port, Guangzhou East Station, Baiyun International Airport, recreational and leisure facilities as well as key industries such as steel and vehicle manufacturing plants.
The delegates later took a metro ride to get firsthand experiences on the largest scale infrastructure project in Guangzhou.
The Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr Lin Shusen, hosted dinner for the HKSARG delegation.
Mr Tsang and the delegation members will visit Nansha development zone, and the port and airport in Zhuhai tomorrow before returning to Hong Kong at night.
