CPC Election receives 29 nominations

************************************

The Education Department (ED) received a total of 29 nominations in the fifth election to the Council on Professional Conduct in Education (CPC) upon completion of the nomination period yesterday (March 5).

"These nominations comprise 17 for teacher-nominated seats and 12 organisation-nominated seats," an ED spokesman said today.

"Without nominations, one out of the 14 seats in the teacher-nominated categories and two out of the 11 seats in the organisation-nominated categories will be left vacant in the coming term."

He added that the Director of Education would appoint the Assistant Director of Education (Chief Inspector of Schools) and two lay members to the CPC, bringing the total number of members to 25.

Voting for teacher-nominated categories will take place at schools on April 17, 2002. All full-time registered teachers, permitted teachers and government school teachers are eligible to vote.

For organisation-nominted categories with contention, eligible educational organisations will be informed to submit their votes before 10 am on April 19, 2002.

Details about election procedures will be sent to schools and educational organisations shortly.
