A series of short television episodes to remind youths to stay away from crimes will be screened on Saturday evenings as part of the Department of Justice's effort to promote the knowledge of law in the community.
A spokesman for the Department said sometimes youths do not know what they do contravenes the law and if convicted they may have to face very serious consequences.
The programme will be broadcast at the Jade Channel, Television Broadcasts Limited at 7.30 p.m. on Saturdays starting from January 5, 2002 onwards for about three months. The 12 episodes, each lasts for about three minutes, will feature the following crimes frequently committed by youths :
* Triad related activities at school * Rave parties, possession and trafficking of dangerous drugs * Trafficking of dangerous drugs from the Mainland * Shoplifting * Common assault * Selling pirated goods e.g. CD, VCD, computer software * Internet-related crimes e.g. using others' log-in names on the Internet, downloading songs from the Internet and duplicating them on tapes/discs * Theft/robbery/burglary * Teenage gangs * Criminal damage * Indecent assault, sexual intercourse with underaged girl
Government counsel from the Prosecutions Division of the Department will take part in the programme to explain the legal aspects of the crimes.
After screening of the series, a VCD will be produced for distribution to secondary schools and related organisations, together with a CD-Rom comprising computer games featuring similar crimes.
