A Government spokesman announced today (October 19) that the Secretary for Economic Services has appointed 17 members to the Appeal Board Panel under the Consumer Goods Safety Ordinance. The members will serve for a period of two years, with effect from October 20, 2001.

"The Appeal Board is responsible for hearing appeals against enforcement decisions or actions taken by the Commissioner of Customs and Excise under the Consumer Goods Safety Ordinance," the spokesman said.

"When convened, the Board shall consist of the Chairman or Deputy Chairman of the Appeal Board panel, who shall be the Chairman of the Board, and one member from each of the other categories of the panel."
