The Labour Department has issued a "Guidance Notes on Inspection, Thorough Examination and Testing of Lifting Appliances and Lifting Gear". The guidance provides practical tips to owners, competent persons and competent examiners to enhance the safety and reliability of these appliances.

The notes give a brief account on the relevant legal requirements and lists out the key elements in inspection, tests and examination of these appliances.

The guidance notes can be obtained free of charge from offices of the Occupational Safety and Health Branch of the Labour Department.
