The Water Supplies Department today (July 22) reminded the public not to illegally use water from fire service installations for non-fire fighting purpose.
"Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $5,000," a spokesman for the department said.
The spokesman noted that an offender had been fined $4,000 recently for taking water from fire service installations for laundry purposes.
In addition, seven contractors had been fined between $700 and $3,500 for illegally using water from street hydrants for construction purposes in Kwai Chung, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Kowloon Tong, Cheung Chau and Hong Kong Island respectively.
