A large portion of land at the north-western part of the area, which takes up 122.8 hectares, is zoned "Other Specified Uses" annotated "Landfill" to cover the North East New Territories Landfill.
A total of 1.87 hectares of land is zoned "Government, Institution or Communityˇ¨ to cater for the development of the proposed Ping Che Fresh Water Service Reservoir, and to cover the existing Cheung Shan Kwu Tsz and the radio repeater building at Hung Fa Leng.
The remaining part of the area, which consists of both actively cultivated and fallow agricultural land, and well-vegetated foothills and knolls, is zoned "Agriculture" and "Green Belt". The two zones cover 47.97 hectares and 394.27 hectares respectively.
