The Government announced today (July 6) the closure of part of Fife Street to facilitate the improvement works of the Mass Transit Railway Mong Kok Station.
A portion of the existing footpath on Fife Street between Nathan Road and Portland Street will be permanently closed and altered from August 6, 2001 for the construction of a new external passenger lift and associated street alternation works.
The passenger lift will serve the public from street level to the station concourse.
To facilitate the works, a portion of Fife Street between Nathan Road and Portland Street has been temporarily closed for a period of 21 months, from July 3, 2001 to March 31, 2003.
During the period, pedestrian and traffic will be diverted. Pedestrian walkway will be maintained to the adjacent shops and building entrances at all times.
Two notices on the road closure were published in the Government Gazette today.
A copy of the plan No. KM 6239 showing the affected area may be inspected by the public at Yau Tsim Mong District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Ground Floor, 4th and 6th Floors, Mong Kok Government Offices, 30 Luen Wan Street and at the District Lands Office/Kowloon (West), 10th Floor, Yau Ma Tei Carpark Building, 250 Shanghai Street.
Any person affected by the temporary and permanent road closure may send a written claim for compensation to the Director of Lands on or before March 31, 2004 and August 6, 2002 respectively.
