Winners of Most Wanted Inventions in the 21st Century Awarded

The winners of 11 awards of the Most Wanted Inventions in the 21st Century Competition were announced at the prize presentation ceremony today (July 5) by the Director of Intellectual Property, Mr Stephen Selby.

The competition was jointly organised by the Intellectual Property Department, the Hong Kong Inventors Association and the Summer Youth Programme Committee.

"We have received about 3 000 voting entries reflecting the positive response of members of the public to the issue of intellectual property rights protection," said Mr Selby.

The first part of the competition was launched in last November to invite for innovative ideas and has attracted a total of 628 entries in five categories, namely "Best Market Potentials"' "Most Environmental-friendly", "Best for Household Use", "Best for Children" and "Best for the Working Population".

Ten winning entries from each category were selected in the first stage according to their creativity, practicability and presentation, and were shortlisted for the second part of public voting.

Winners of each category with highest votings as well as an overall champion had each received a prize with value not less than $10 000. Voters for the winning entries, selected by balloting, had each won a gift coupon of $2 000.

The winners for each category are Chu Ka Wai, Lok King Yu, Chan Ka Wing, Lee Suet Chung and Yuen Shuk Ching while the overall champion is Chu Ka Wai. For the winning voters, they are Tse Fung Ling, Tsui Shek Leung, Cheung Suk Yin, Sit Suk Yun and Lam Kin Ling.
