LCQ16: Occupancy rates and rental level of HA shops and market stalls ********************************************************** Following is a question by the Hon David Chu, and a written reply by the Secretary for Housing, Mr Dominic Wong, in the Legislative Council today (June 20): Question: Will the Government inform this Council of the occupancy rates of the following categories of stalls and shops, as well as the median per-square-metre rental of such occupied stalls and shops, as at April 1 this year: (a) shops in the shopping arcade of each public rental housing estate (PRH estate); (b) market stalls in each PRH estate; and (c) stalls in each of the markets managed by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department? Reply Madam President, The Housing Department has information on the average, but not the median, per-square-metre rental of shops and market stalls in public rental housing estates. Such information, together with occupancy rates, is at Annexes 1 and 2. For markets managed by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, the rentable area of stalls includes an expanded area for display purpose. In the absence of information on the size of display areas for some 10000 stalls in older markets, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department does not have statistics on per-square-metre rentals. Instead, median rentals of stalls are provided at Annex 3. End/Wednesday, June 20, 2001 NNNN
