The following is issued on behalf of the Housing Authority:

Ballots were drawn today (Wednesday) to decide the priorities in flat selection for applicants of Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) Phase 23A.

The Housing Authority (HA) has received a total of 18 879 applications for this phase, including 4 862 Green Forms and 14 017 White Forms. Offered for sale are 6 307 new flats in four projects, namely Choi Ming Court in Tsueng Kwan O, Yu Chui Court Stage 1 in Sha Tin, Fung Ting Court in Yuen Long and Lai Yan Court in Lai Chi Kok.

From 9 June to 22 July 2001, on-site show flats at Choi Ming Court and Yu Chui Court Stage 1 will be open to all HOS 23A applicants. Free shuttle bus service will be provided to take applicants from the HA's Customer Service Centre (HACSC) at Lok Fu to the two courts.

Statistics show that the four projects on sale are almost equally popular among the applicants. In the vicinity of a future MTR station of the Tsueng Kwan O Line, Choi Ming Court has attracted 23% of the applicants to opt for it as their first choice. Yu Chui Court Stage 1, adjacent to the proposed City One Station of the Ma On Shan Rail, is the most preferred option of 22% applicants.

Another 21% and 28% of the applicants have opted for Fung Ting Court and Lai Yan Court as their first choice respectively. The former is close to a Light Rail station and the later within walking distance from the Mei Foo MTR Station.

"With over twelve thousand applications exceeding the actual number of new flats on sale, we can see that the HOS remains a viable and preferred channel to acquire homeownership for eligible households," remarked Mr. Walter Chan Kar-lok, Chairman of the HA's Home Ownership Committee. Mr. Chan joined Mrs. Doris Ma Kong Zee-wan, Assistant Director of Housing (Sales) in presiding over today's balloting exercise.

Starting from tomorrow, the priority list of Green Form and White Form application numbers will be posted at the Home Ownership Centre at the HACSC, all public housing estates, Housing Information Centres and District Offices. Flat selection will start in mid-June.
