Police today (April 12) reminded grave-sweepers to make full use of public transport during the Easter holiday.
"Parking facilities around cemeteries will be extremely limited and vehicles parked illegally on roads and pavements will be towed away without prior warning," a Police spokesman said.
The spokesman said that for the safety of the public, Police would divert grave-sweepers from places which are already over-crowded.
Motorists are advised to pay attention to traffic signs which will be put up around cemeteries. Police officers will be on hand to guide motorists.
The public are also urged to exercise restraint and to be courteous to the elderly and children in crowded places.
Special traffic arrangements will be implemented in the vicinity of cemeteries as follows:
Hong Kong Island: ----------------
Special traffic arrangements will be implemented on April 13, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 28, 29, 30 and May 1 in Chai Wan, Pok Fu Lam, Aberdeen and Happy Valley area when the situation warrants.
In Chai Wan, certain roads in the vicinity of Cape Collinson cemeteries and Chai Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be closed to traffic between 7 am and 6 pm.
They include:
(a) Cape Collinson Road east of Lin Shing Road;
(b) The slip road leading to the Garden of Remembrance and Crematorium from Cape Collinson Road;
(c) The slip road leading to the Chai Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery;
(d) Wan Tsui Lane; and
(e) If the situation warrants, Cape Collison Road and Lin Shing Road will be closed.
The following roads will be re-routed one-way:
(a) Cape Collinson Road one-way westbound from Crematorium slip road to Shek O Road;
(b) Lin Shing Road one-way southbound from Wan Tsui Road to Cape Collinson Road;
(c) A section of Wan Tsui Road between Chai Wan Roundabout and Fei Tsui Road will be routed one-way westbound.
No parking will be permitted along Wan Tsui Road, Cape Collinson Road, Lin Shing Road, a section of Shek O Road between the Tai Tam Training Centre and Tai Tam Road between 7 am and 7 pm.
Between 7 am and 6 pm, the first bus stop on Wan Tsui Road south of the junction with Chai Wan Road will be suspended. Besides, the second bus stop on Wan Tsui Road near Lin Shing Road will be moved about 40 metres westward near the junction of Fei Tsui Road. The bus stop at Shek O Road near Cape Collinson Road will be moved to the entrance to the Tai Tam Correctional Institute.
In Pok Fu Lam, Consort Rise will be routed one-way southbound from Victoria Road to Bisney Road between 7 am and 6 pm.
In Aberdeen, Peel Rise in the vicinity of the Aberdeen Chinese Cemetery and the slip road from Shek Pai Wan Road leading to the cemetery will be closed during the same period.
In the Happy Valley area, the tram stop on Wong Nai Chung Road opposite to the Hong Kong Jockey Club will be moved northward for a distance of about 30 metres beween 7 am and 7 pm on April 14, 15 and 16.
Kowloon East: ------------
In Tseung Kwan O, the access road leading to the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be closed to traffic except for emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles taking part in funeral processions, vehicles possessing valid entry permits and KMB shuttle buses between 6 am and 8 pm on April 13, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 28 and 29.
Temporary taxi and public light bus stands will be designated on the southern kerbside of the westbound Lei Yue Mun Road opposite to St. Antonius Girl's School between 7 am and 5.30 pm on the same days.
KMB Route No. 14S will provide bus service from the eastbound Lei Yue Mun Road east of St. Antonius Girl's School to the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery between 7 am and 5.30 pm on those days. However the services may be suspended should the road leading to the cemetery becomes saturated.
New Territories North: ----------------------
In Wo Hop Shek, the following roads will be closed from 4 am to 7 pm on April 13, 14, 15 and 16:
(a) Kiu Tau Road except hearses;
(b) Ming Yin Road except franchised buses;
(c) Wo Ka Lau Road; and
(d) The flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West except taxis, coaches, school buses, private cars, goods vehicles and motorcycles.
Meanwhile, all drivers except those of franchised buses, emergency vehicles and vehicles with permits issued by the Commissioner for Transport will not be allowed to stop and handle passengers and goods between 7 am and midnight on the following roads on the same days:
(a) Wo Hing Road;
(b) Lui Ming Road;
(c) Wai Ming Street;
(d) Pak Wo Road;
(e) Wah Ming Road;
(f) Yat Ming Road;
(g) Wo Ming Lane;
(h) Yan Shing Lane; and
(i) Tai Wo Service Road West between Wo Hing Road and a point about 300 metres south of its junction with Kiu Tau Road.
The following car parks will be suspended to all vehicles at 8 pm until 8 pm the following day on April 13, 14 and 15. During the period, the car park spaces thereat will also be suspended:
(a) The car park off Wo Hing Road near Wo Hop Shek Interchange except for emergency vehicles and public light buses;
(b) The car park off Wo Hing Road near Ming Yin Road Roundabout except for emergency vehicles and urban taxis;
(c) The car park off Ming Yin Road near Kiu Tau Road except for emergency vehicles; and
(d) The car park off Pak Wo Road near Fung Ying Sin Koon except for emergency vehicles.
The taxi stand on Lui Ming Road outside Wah Ming Estate will be suspended except for New Territories taxis from 7 am to midnight on April 13, 14, 15 and 16. Urban taxis will be allowed to handle passengers in the car park off Wo Hing Road near Ming Yin Road Roundabout during the suspension period.
Sandy Ridge cemeteries in the Frontier Closed Area are opened to grave-sweepers between 6 am to 6 pm between March 24 and April 16. Vehicles without Frontier Closed Road Permits will not be allowed to enter the area.
To avoid traffic congestion, a section of Man Kam To Road between the unnamed road leading to the Sheung Shui Water Treatment Works and the Sandy Ridge Police Check Point as well as a section of Lo Wu Station Road between Man Kam To Road and KCRC Staff Quarters will be designated as a "non-stopping zone".
New Territories South: ---------------------
In Tsuen Wan District, a section of Lo Wai Road between Lo Wai Old Bus Terminus and Yuen Yuen Institute will be closed to all vehicles on April 14 and 15 between 8 am and 6 pm.
To facilitate visits to the Tsuen Wan Chinese Permanent Cemetery and Crematorium, the following traffic arrangement will be implemented on April 13, 14 and 15:
(a) Wing Yin Street and a section of Wing Shun Street between Yee Lok Street and its junction with Kwai Hei Street will be closed from 7 am to 5 pm and on any other days during the period if necessary;
(b) A one-way system will be adopted on a section of Wing Kei Road between Kwai Hei Street and Wing Kin Road. Vehicles will only be allowed to enter via Wing Kin Road;
(c) Wing Lap Street, Wing Hau Street and Wing Chong Street will be closed;
(d) Parking will be prohibited on any roads near the cemetery and crematorium;
(e) Temporary taxi stands will be set up on Kwai Hei Street near its junction with Wing Shun Street and Wing Kei Road.
In Sha Tin District, vehicles other than coffin vans, staff and emergency vehicles will be kept away from the access road of the Fu Shan Crematorium when necessary to facilitate grave-sweepers.
