Diana Krall Brings a Wonderful Jazz Evening to the Hong Kong Audiences

*************************************************************

"So much soulfulness and glamour... in the same place at the same time." - "Time"

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, a concert by Diana Krall, the winner of Best Jazz Vocal Performance of the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards, will be staged at 8pm on May 7 (Monday) in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall. Hong Kong audiences can personally feel the talent of this world-known jazz vocalist. This concert is one of the highlighted programmes in this year's Jazz Up Series.

"Time" described Diana Krall as soulful and glamourous. She was born in Canada and began to learn about music when she was a toddler. By age four, Krall had started classical piano studies and in her teens she joined her high school jazz band. Moreover, she played piano three nights a week at a hometown restaurant at age fifteen. As Krall grew up, her sincerity of music increases. She is potent as both a pianist and a vocalist who processes an extraordinary talent for creating music that speaks personally to every individual who hears her perform.

Krall released "Only Trust Your Heart" in 1995, which was her first collaboration with Grammy-winner Tommy LiPuma. In 1996, her personal dedication to Nat King Cole Trio, "All for You", earned Krall her first Grammy nomination. In the same year, Krall was invited to perform in tributes to Ella Fitzgerald at the Carnegie Hall and to Benny Carter at the Lincoln Centre. Her wildly successful "Love Scenes", released in 1997, has found itself at Number One of the Billboard jazz charts in three separate calendar years. It also earned her another Grammy nomination. Her latest release, "When I Look In Your Eyes", has become the first jazz album to earn a "Best Album of the Year" Grammy nomination in over 20 years. Krall was the winner of Best Jazz Vocal Performance in the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards in 2000.
