Designs for TST Promenade Beautification Competition on display

************************************************************

An exhibition of entries of the Open Design Competition for design concepts for the beautification of the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade will be held between February 10 and 24. This will be the first of a roving exhibition to take place in the territory in the coming months.

A spokesman for the Tourism Commission today (February 9) said: "The competition was held in June 2000 under the name of Pride of Hong Kong - Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade Beautification. It aimed at inviting innovative designs for landscaping improvements to the promenade and arousing the awareness of Hong Kong people about this important asset of Hong Kong."

Response to the competition was very positive, with a total of 43 entries.

The entries will be displayed at the exhibition to enable members of the public to share the vision and ideas of participants.

The Government is working on implementation of the project based on the design theme of the winning entry, and will take into account the merits of the entry. Useful ideas in other entries will also be incorporated where these prove suitable and compatible with the design theme.

The spokesman added: "The beautification of the promenade aims at giving a face-lift to the central part of the Victoria Harbour making the magnificent harbour view more attractive."

The exhibition will be open between 11am and 7pm on the Ground Floor, Empire Centre, 68 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East. Admission is free.
