The Ri Hing Lion Dance Training Center from Singapore won the title in the first International Luminous Dragon Dance Competition last night (January 6) at the Hong Kong Coliseum, beating the other seven teams from China, Malaysia, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Macau and Hong Kong .

The first runner-up and second runner-up of the Luminous Dragon Dance Competition went to Yahya Awal Dragon Dance Troupe from Malaysia and Japan Kobe Municipal Hyogo Commercial High School Dragon and Lion Dance Group.

All participating luminous dragon dance teams were already champions in their own countries or regions. They came to Hong Kong to compete for the world champion title.

The International Luminous Dragon Dance and Lion Dance Invitation Tournament 2001 was jointly organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Association and financially supported by the Hong Kong Sports Development Board.
