The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)'s Sam Ka Tsuen Sports Centre and Sam Ka Tsuen Public Library in Lei Yue Mun was officially opened today (December 22) to provide a new recreational and library service for the district residents.
Officiating at the opening ceremony were the Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Mr Paul Leung Sai-wah; the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Pau Shiu-hung; and the Chairman of Kwun Tong District Council, Mr Hau Shui-pui.
Addressing the ceremony, Mr Leung said, "To keep with the pace of technological advancement and to meet the needs of the community, the Sam Ka Tsuen Library is equipped with computer terminals to enable readers to have access to multi-media materials, Internet and CD-ROM database, thereby enhancing the role of Hong Kong's public libraries as a self-learning and information centre."
Mr Leung added that the Sam Ka Tsuen Sports Centre provided a wide range of leisure facilities for public enjoyment. Facilities such as the main arena, multi-purpose recreational hall, climbing activities room, squash court, children's play room, etc were provided to cater for the needs of different age groups and interest.
The opening ceremony concluded with a plaque-unveiling was followed by a tour of the new sports centre and the public library.
The newly completed sports centre and the public library are located in the Sam Ka Tsuen Municipal Services Building, No. 6 Lei Yue Mun Path, Sam Ka Tsuen, Kowloon.
Occupying two floors of the building, the sports centre provides a main hall arena for basketball, volleyball and badminton games; a multi-purpose recreational hall for various sports activities such as gateball, indoor short mat bowling, fencing, judo and yoga; two squash courts; a dance room; a climbing activities room; a children's play room; three table tennis rooms and a fitness room. The centre opens daily from 7 am to 11 pm.
Facilities in the public library, which is on the first floor of the Sam Ka Tsuen Municipal Services Building, include an adult lending library, a junior library, a newspaper and periodical section, an extension activities room, as well as provision of junior multimedia services and the internet/CD-ROM search services.
The Sam Ka Tsuen Public Library opens daily from 10 am to 7 pm from Mondays to Wednesdays and on Fridays; from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturdays and Sundays and from 10 am to 1 pm on public holidays. It closes on every Thursday.
