The Books Registration Office (BRO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will move from the 6th Floor of City Hall High Block to the following new address from next Wednesday (October 4):

805, 8th Floor, Training School,

Under the administration of LCSD's Hong Kong Public Libraries, the BRO is responsible for registration and preservation of books published or printed locally. Five copies of each book first printed, produced or published in Hong Kong are requested to be deposited with the BRO.

A quarterly bibliography of current Hong Kong publications will be complied and gazetted by the BRO for public inspection.

The BRO also serves as the local agent for the International Standard Book Number (ISBN) System and may issue ISBN to local publishers.

The ISBN comprises totally ten digits in four parts. It can efficiently and accurately identify a given title, its publisher, place of publication, edition and binding. It is internationally used in the publishing and book selling industries and amongst librarians for book ordering and stock control.
