The following is the transcript (English portion) given by the Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, tonight (August 2) at the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital:
Reporter: Mr Tung, could you say a few words in English about this destructive event that happened this evening?
Chief Executive: What happened this afternoon was totally unacceptable and we were all very angry with it. On this sort of brutal behaviour, irrational behaviour is totally unacceptable to all of us. I and my colleagues just visited those who were injured this afternoon. Some of them are rather more seriously injured. We conveyed to them our best wishes for early recovery and also expressed our sympathy to the members of their families. To those who do not have right of abode and are now here in Hong Kong, they should not have any unrealistic expectations because we will be executing the decision of the court. We want to uphold the rule of law here in Hong Kong. Thank you very much.
