A total of 46 electors of the Fung Tsui constituency went to the polls during the first hour of polling in the North District Council by-election today (July 23).
Two polling stations, located at the Tai Po District Junior Police Call Sheung Shui Club House, Old Sheung Shui Police Station, Sheung Shui Wai, and the Bilok Anglo-Chinese Kindergarten, G/F, Blocks 4 & 5, Tsui Lai Garden, 9 Fung Nam Road, are open from 7.30 am to 10.30 pm tonight for 6,405 electors to vote.
Two candidates - merchant Mr Hau Hing-wing and social service administrator Mr Liu Chiu-wa - are competing for a seat in the North District Council.
The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission, Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing, and the two members, Mr Norman Leung Nai-pang and Dr Elizabeth Shing Shiu-ching, will separately visit the polling stations and the counting station to monitor electoral activities.
A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office urged electors to go to the polls as early as possible. "Don't wait until the last minute to vote. Just bring along your identity card to the designated polling station stated in your poll card."
"Use the chop provided at the polling station to stamp a 'tick' in the circle opposite the name of the candidate of your choice on your ballot paper. Using a pen or any other way to mark a ballot paper will invalidate your vote," the spokesman reminded voters.
Registration and Electoral Office staff are manning the hotline, 2891 1001, until the close of poll at 10.30 pm to answer enquiries from voters about the whereabouts of their designated polling station and other electoral matters.
The Registration and Electoral Office's complaints hotline, 2827 7656, is in operation till 10.30 pm tonight to handle complaints about breaches of electoral guidelines.
Members of the public are welcome to watch the counting of votes at the counting station at TWGH Hong Kong & Kowloon Electrical Appliances Merchants Association Limited School, Area 7, Shek Wu Hui, Sheung Shui. All ballot papers will be delivered to the counting station for the count immediately after the close of poll.
