The latest edition of the Government yearbook 'Hong Kong 1999' is on sale from today (July 19).
Running to over 500 pages, the annual report contains 23 chapters dealing with the various aspects of government activity, ranging from health, infrastructure developments and education to environmental matters and public order.
In the Review Chapter - 'Hong Kong Gears Up for a World Without Walls' - the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Anson Chan, examines how the challenges of 1999 have laid the foundations for continued economic, political and legal development in the new century.
A Government spokesman said: "With all the official facts and figures of 1999 included, the yearbook is the authoritative source of information on Hong Kong and an invaluable reference book for academics, businessmen and anyone interested in this city."
The yearbook contains about 140 colour photographs, depicting various aspects of life in Hong Kong. There is an extensive list of Appendices.
For the first time, the publication is printed with environmental friendly ink on paper made from woodpulp derived from renewable forest.
'Hong Kong 1999', published in English and Chinese editions, is available from the Government Publications Centre, Queensway, and will be on sale at leading bookshops later. It is priced at $106.
The annual report will shortly be available on CD-ROM priced at $54.
